唯一遊び心が盛り込めたのはROMカセットの取り出しレバーである（図2）。これは開発第一部 部長の横井軍平がアイデアを提供した。ROMカセットを手で挿入し，そのまま手で引き抜くようにしても実用上は問題ない。横井は，レバーを押すとカセットがポンと飛び出すという仕掛けそのものを子供は喜ぶのではないかと考えた。ゲームをしないときでもガチャガチャとやって遊べる。子供向けの製品にはこうした配慮が必要だという発想である。このアイデアを上村と湯川はすぐに受け入れた。
